Storage is part of the purchase
It is tempting to buy bulk boxes on price per unit and forget where they will live. But storage decides whether those boxes are still good when you need them. A great price on stock that degrades in a damp corner is not a great price.
Plan the storage as part of the buy, not an afterthought once the trailer arrives.
Protect from the two enemies
These are the same forces that our graders screen for on the way in. Good storage simply keeps your boxes on the right side of that grading line.
- Keep stock off concrete floors on pallets to block wicking moisture.
- Pull storage away from exterior walls and dock doors where condensation forms.
- Do not over-stack stored bins — the bottom ones crush under the pile.
- Store flat-folded where the box style allows, to save space and reduce crush.
“Boxes in storage die of two things: moisture and being crushed by other boxes.”
Rotate your stock
Corrugated does not improve with age, so treat it like perishable inventory. Use first-in-first-out: pull from the oldest stock first so nothing sits for a year absorbing whatever the seasons bring.
A simple layout that makes FIFO natural — older stock in front, new deliveries behind — prevents the slow, invisible loss of boxes you paid for but never used in time.
Buy to your space, not just your price
Truckload pricing is tempting, but a truckload you cannot store properly is a false economy. Match your order size to the space you can protect, or set up a standing supply so you take steady, manageable deliveries instead of one overwhelming load.
We can hold a recurring lot in your sizes and ship on a cadence that fits your footprint, which keeps volume pricing without the storage crunch.
A quick storage audit
Walk your storage area and ask: is anything on bare concrete, against an outside wall, or stacked so the bottom bins are crushing? Is the oldest stock the easiest to reach? Fixing those three things protects most of the value sitting in your box inventory.
If you are planning a bigger buy, tell us your space constraints and we will help size deliveries so your boxes stay sellable-grade right up to the day you use them.
